Most of the South American countries are known for their exotic locations and picturesque tourist destinations, and Costa Rica is also not an exception. This South American country has a lot to offer as far as travel and tourism is concerned. Howsoever, in order to be a cynosure in the eyes of all visitors, the available means of transportation prevailing in any country needs to be of the highest quality. Thankfully, this South American country does not lag behind as far as transportation and accessibility is concerned.

According to the prevailing statistic, transportation involving public buses is the most popular as well as cheaper mode of conveyance here in Costa Rica. These public buses are found in large numbers throughout the entire length of this country and come at an affordable price. They are known to be apt in timings and provide fairly nice services to their passengers.
Rent-a-car is also a very popular mode of transportation in Costa Rica. Most of these cars that are given for rental purposes are the traditional four wheelers. In order to ensure the safety of the passengers, the Tourism Bureau of this country have made it a point that the minimum age, after attaining which a person can drive in the city roads is 21. For foreigners, a minimum age of 21 years coupled with a valid passport is considered an utmost necessity for driving, here in Costa Rica. However, the main problem with this rent-a-car scheme prevailing here in Costa Rica is that this particular mode of transportation is highly engaged in connecting the main cities of Costa Rica, and does very little in acting as a bridge between the rural areas with the advanced cities.
Taxis also form an integral part of the transportation system of Costa Rica. Taxis, like the other means of transportation also come at an affordable price. All the taxis that operate here in Costa Rica are known to have meters incorporated in them, so that you have a clear picture of the fare and pay accordingly. The taxis here in Costa Rica have are known to charge more if they are made to go out of the main city.
For tourists who prefer romanticism or adventure, Rail transportation is probably the best option that is available at their disposal. However, this particular mode of transportation is found to be extremely limited in Costa Rica, much to the apathy of the tourists. The Swiss travel agency and TAM travels are two major traveling agencies here in Costa Rica that are known to arrange exotic Railway trips for their clients.
