of underwater caves – the natural extravaganza of the Isla del

new world through its diversity in ecology, makes it an irresistible
destination to the tourists.
The fauna thriving in the Isla del Coco National Park encompass
more than 200 species of plants, more than 300 species of insects,
2 species of lizards and salamander, three species of spiders,
more than 80 species of birds, about 60 species of crustaceans,
around 120 species of mollusks, more than 200 species of fishes
and 18 species of birds. Amongst the most unique birds found
are the Pinzón of Isla del Coco, the Cuclillo of Isla
del Coco, and Mosquerito of Isla del Coco, where as the sea
abounds in sharks at every step, with giant hammerhead being
aplenty.
The island offers numerous activities to the tourists beginning
from snorkeling to diving and trekking of the island as the
animals are never afraid of the human threats. The diversity
and beauty of the Isla del Coco National Park has helped it
to make a place for itself in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites
list.
