The eruption of the Arenal Volcano in 1968 results in a havoc destruction of the city of Arenal. Eighty seven people were reported to be killed by the eruption. Forests, crops, livestock and properties were completely under the grip of the volcanic eruption. A total of two hundred and thirty kilometers were affected while fifteen square kilometers were entirely buried. Moreover, the eruption of 1968 results in the formation of three active craters.
The Arenal Volcano stands one thousand six hundred and fifty
seven meters above the sea level. The Arenal Volcano is also
enlisted in the seven volcanoes of Costa Rica that remain historically
active. The remaining volcanoes are the Orosi, Irazu, Poas,
Miravalles, Turrialba, etc.
If you visit the Arenal Volcano you can also have a short visit
to the nearby attractions. Lake Arenal that is located just
near the Arenal Volcano is the common attraction of the local
and international windsurfers. The months from November to April
are best for the windsurfing on the lake Arenal.
Another site that is adjacent to the Arenal Volcano is the Arenal
Volcano National Park. The special feature of the park is that
it holds a volcano called Chato. The crater of this volcano
contains a lagoon which is known as Cerro Chato.
