Costa Rica is a land of abundant natural beauty. It is considered to be the Garden of Eden on Earth. The breathtakingly beautiful mountains of Costa Rica covered with lush green forests are sure to enchant your soul. Small rivulets meandering through these dense forests, and the abundance of a wide variety of flora and fauna imparts a kind of magic to this fabled land. With its magnificent beaches, splendid waterfalls and the forests teeming with wildlife, Costa Rica provides tourists with endless destinations. Costa Rica is one of those few countries which had decided to treasure its natural reserve rather than plundering it. Though the present reserve of Costa Rica's forests is not what it used to be, yet a large portion could be saved because of the initiatives taken by its citizens and Government.

During the 1970s, the people of Costa Rica could realize that slowly, but steadily, they were losing a great treasure. Clearing of forests for settlement was taking its toll on the natural treasures. A systematic effort was made to save the wilderness of Costa Rica. Thus was formed the National Parks of Costa Rica. The Costa Rica National Parks are managed by the Sistema Nacional de Areas de Conservacion (SINAC), which is a department functioning under the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE). There are a total of 26 National Parks in Costa Rica. These parks carry forward the message of Costa Rica's ecotourism, which has been appreciated worldwide. The national parks of Costa Rica are even the centers for biological research and studies.
