The total geographical features of Costa Rica include fifty one thousand one hundred square kilometers. The land portion of the geography of Costa Rica covers fifty thousand six hundred and sixty kilometers while the water portion includes only four hundred and forty kilometers.
The terrain of the country is a coastal plain. The geography of Costa Rica makes the terrain separated by the two mountains– Cordillera de Talamanca and Cordillera Central. These two mountains of the country act as the spine of Costa Rica and also divided the Caribbean and the pacific watersheds.
Among the vital rivers of the country, which drained themselves
into the Caribbean Sea, the Rio Pacuare, Rio Colorado, Rio Reventazon,
Rio Parismina and Rio Sixaola deserve mention. The rivers that
drained their water into the Pacific Ocean include the names
of Rio Guacimal, Rio Terraba, Rio Abangares, Rio Tempisque and
Rio Sierpe.
The country of Costa Rica presents twenty six national parks
of which La Amistad International Park, is the largest park
of Costa Rica. It covers one thousand nine hundred and ninety
one square kilometers. The Manuel Antonio National Park is regarded
as the smallest of the national parks. It includes an area of
total sixteen square kilometers. Poás Volcano National
Park has its fame of the first national parks of the country.
The SINAC of the country -plays a major role in administering
the system of national parks of Costa Rica. The national parks
of the country come under the category of the protected areas
that also include other areas like Biological Reserves, National
Wildlife Refuges and many others.
